A Thank You from Mary Wagner
I would like to thank everyone who offered their prayer and other support for me throughout my period of incarceration at Alouette CCW and during last week’s trial.
While in custody, I received numerous letters and I would like to thank all those who wrote to me and to apologize for not having replied to many of them. Unfortunately, many of the letters never reached me due to the strict criteria regarding incoming mail.
In particular, I would like to thank all who were able to attend court. Your respectful presence, a wel-come sign of your support for me and for God’s littlest ones, was also an important witness to the Gospel of Life for all who were present in the courthouse.
I would like especially to acknowledge the kindness and hard work of Peter Boushy, whose love for God, Our Blessed Mother, and the gift of human life, prompted him to fly to Vancouver from Ontario in order to defend me, as he has done joyfully more than once in the past in Ontario.
I hope and believe that much fruit has been borne as a result of the desire to bring Love and Hope where Jesus is abandoned in his littlest ones and their mothers.

As our federal election date approaches, Canadians must rely on the guidance of our bishops for the number of pressing moral issues that must be addressed.
With political parties sponsoring abortion, euthanasia, same sex “marriage,” “gay pride” parades, and LGBTQ issues, where can a sincere faithful Catholic go to vote?
As no party will reverse all this evil, relying on the figment of settled law to avoid any necessity of proper action, how can a faithful Catholic support any of this continuing grave evil? Would a Catholic be committing a mortal sin by voting for any of these morally corrupt politicians?
In the past where I had to vote and there was no pro-lifer on the ballot, I did one of two actions: I simply wrote right on the ballot “No pro-life candidate,” making it an intentional spoiled ballot, or I just wrote my own name on the ballot. In this way I did not support the immoral practices of the government and perhaps commit a mortal sin by casting a vote to continue this immoral way for us all.
Is this morally acceptable?

The encyclical Evangelium Vitae (The Gospel of Life) says “when it is not possible to overturn or completely abrogate a pro-abortion law, an elected official, whose absolute personal opposition to procured abortion was well known, could licitly support proposals aimed at limiting the harm done by such a law and at lessening its negative consequences at the level of general opinion and morality. This does not in fact represent an illicit cooperation with an unjust law, but rather a legitimate and proper attempt to limit its evil aspects” (n73). In the same way, the Catholic faithful are free to vote for a candidate who is most likely to limit the harm of abortion. As EV says, this is not illicit cooperation with evil, but rather a legitimate and proper attempt to limit it. – Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB
